Number of farms and ranches in Kansas falls again in 2014

The number of farms and ranches in Kansas continued a decades-long, very slow decline in 2014, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture.

There were 61,000 farms and ranches in the Kansas, down 800 from 2013. The number has shrunk by about 3,000, or 6.3 percent, over the last decade.

But the number of farms with more than $100,000 in agricultural sales was up in 2014, by 100 farms.

Land in farms and ranches in Kansas totaled 46 million acres, down 100,000 acres from 2013.
