Bradley Fair, New Market Square through the years
May 1989 — Development begins on Bradley Fair.
November 1990 — Bradley Fair opens with 28,000 square feet and 11 stores, anchored by Gessler Drug.
August 1992 — Talbots opens as the center’s first national retailer.
March 1994 — Gap opens.
September 1995 — Laham Development acquires the 320-acre Wilson Estates site, including a master plan for a retail expansion, office park, retirement community and residential development.
August 1997 — Don Slawson and partners purchase land at 21st and Maize from David Cranmer of Cranmer Grass Farm.
February 1998 — Construction announced on the 43,000-square-foot south wing of Bradley Fair.
December 1999 — Bradley Fair Plaza completed.
March 2000 — Slawson closes on land sale to Wal-Mart.
June 2000 — Ground broken on the 85,000-squarefoot final phase of Bradley Fair.
November 2000 — Construction of NewMarket Square’s first phase begins.
November 2001 — NewMarket’s first phase of 370,000 square feet opens, with 75 percent occupancy.
November 2003 — Land sale to Target closes at NewMarket, and construction begins.
October 2004 — Target opens.
April 2008 — Slawson receives a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to expand NewMarket Square to 29th Street.
