U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Manhattan, has been named chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies, his office said Tuesday.
“As chairman of the Senate Appropriations Agriculture Subcommittee, I welcome the opportunity to focus on investing in policies that are vital to Kansas farmers and ranchers, such as agriculture research and extension and Farm Bill implementation,” he said in a statement.
His appointment adds to the state’s influence in setting the country’s agriculture policy. Kansas’ other U.S. senator, Pat Roberts, has already been named chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.
