Wheat condition last week slightly better than in 2014

Although little rain has fallen in Kansas this spring and most of the state remains in some stage of drought, the condition of the winter wheat crop remains slightly better than it was at this time last year.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the wheat is rated 6 percent very poor, 17 poor, 44 fair, 30 good, and 3 excellent. Soil moisture throughout the state is also slightly better than last year, at this point.

After sparse rains through last spring, last year’s wheat harvest turned out to be the worst in 25 years.
