2 Hutchinson correctional officers assaulted by inmate, says KDOC spokesman

Two correctional officers were battered by an inmate at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility at about 10 a.m. Friday, said Jeremy Barclay, Kansas Department of Corrections spokesman.

The two officers were in an office with the inmate when they received “non-serious” injuries, Barclay said. They were transported to the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment, Barclay said, and have subsequently been released.

The inmate has been relocated to the Administrative Segregation unit pending the results of an investigation into the incident, according to a department release.

“We’re determining what we can do in the future to make sure this doesn’t happen against our officers again,” Barclay said.

Officials are investigating the incident, he said.
