Watches taken in jewelry store robbery at NewMarket Square
Police continue to investigate a smash-and-grab burglary that occurred at a northwest Wichita jewelry store Saturday morning.
Under cover of a rainstorm, someone threw a cinder block through the front door of the Powell Jewelry store at 2441 N. Maize Road in NewMarket Square and made off with jewelry, said Wichita police Sgt. John Hoofer.
"We're still doing an accounting and trying to determine what and how much was stolen," Hoofer said Saturday.
The theft was reported to police about 4:15 a.m. Saturday.
Sgt. Ed Brower said Sunday that an undetermined number of men’s and women’s watches had been taken. No suspect information has been released.
