Virginia, Washington state will recognize Kansas concealed carry gun licenses

Kansans who plan on kayaking through Washington state’s Puget Sound or walking the cobbled streets of colonial Williamsburg in Virginia will now be allowed to take their concealed guns along on vacation without fear of breaking the law.

The Kansas attorney general’s office announced Wednesday that Virginia and Washington both have agreed to recognize Kansas’ concealed carry gun licenses.

This brings the total number of other states recognizing the license to 36, Attorney General Derek Schmidt said in an e-mailed statement.

Currently, 80,810 Kansans hold active concealed carry licenses. A law passed by the Legislature last year allows all valid out-of-state permits to be recognized in the state when the person is traveling through Kansas.
