Students and administrators from about a dozen area middle schools celebrated the 20th anniversary of the YMCA’s Middle School After School program on Tuesday.

The event, at Marshall Middle School, included a reception and talent show by the students.

The program, which was established during the 1993-94 school year, was an effort to keep pre-teens off the streets between 3 and 5 p.m. The program offers free, supervised programs – including tutoring, sports, field trips and activity clubs – in 16 schools. It serves about 4,800 students annually.
