Kansas trooper hurt in turnpike crash released from hospital

A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper who was critically injured this week when a vehicle slammed into his parked patrol car on the Kansas Turnpike has been released from the hospital.

Trooper Da’Von Brame, 36, was dismissed Friday after showing signs of improvement throughout the week, a Wesley Medical Center operator said.

He was hospitalized Tuesday evening after a Toyota Tundra driven by a 23-year-old Haysville man hit the rear of his patrol car near the Kellogg exits in east Wichita. At the time of the crash, Brame’s car was parked behind a semi that he had pulled over to inspect, and he was sitting inside. The force of the impact shoved the car into the big rig’s trailer.

Authorities said earlier this week that the crash happened at highway speeds. Brame, an 11-year veteran of the highway patrol, has been assigned to the Turnpike Authority for two years.
