Coming soon to a driver-licensing office near you: Monday hours.

Beginning Monday, the Kansas Department of Revenue will open driver-licensing offices on Mondays in the Wichita, Andover, Topeka, Olathe and Mission areas.

It’s been a long time coming.

In 1984, the state switched to four-day workweeks. But after a successful trial run this summer in which the state kept two of the state’s busiest offices open on Mondays – in Wichita and Mission – five offices will now be open each Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Later this fall, the Mission and Olathe offices will conduct a pilot project involving evening hours.

Also, when Derby’s office opens this fall, it will also be using the Monday through Friday hours.

People are invited to try using a phone line management service that allows them to secure their place in line without first coming into a driver-licensing office. To do that, people using their cellphones can text 714-333-1234 or 626-609-1234 at the Mission, Olathe, Topeka, Andover and Wichita driver-licensing offices. They can also sign in online by going to http://ksrevenue.org/qless.html .
