City of Wichita hires new human resources director

The city of Wichita has hired a new director for its human resources department.

Chris Bezruki is set to start on July 8, City Manager Robert Layton announced Friday in a city news release. Bezruki currently holds the same position for the city of Champaign, Ill., and has more than two decades of human resources experience.

Bezruki replaces Anne Warren, who acted as interim director after former HR head Sarah Gilbert left Oct. 31, 2011, city spokesman Van Williams said by e-mail. Warren’s service ended Feb. 12. For the last four months, Assistant City Manager Cathy Holdeman has been helping to oversee the department, Williams said.

Bezruki will be responsible for managing a $1.4 million budget and 17 employees as head of human resources, which provides employment, payroll and labor management services for 3,130 full-time city positions, according to the news release.

His salary is set at $134,000, Williams said.
