Armed robber steals cash, cigarettes from convenience store

An armed man robbed a south Wichita convenience store Wednesday night, police said.

The man entered the D & T Station at 895 S. Woodlawn, next to Lincoln, at 8:40 p.m., and pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money from the register, Wichita police Lt. Joe Schroeder said. He took the money and a pack of Newport cigarettes and left the area on foot.

The clerk told police the robber is an unknown black man in his 20s. He is about 6 feet tall and has a medium build. He wore a black skull cap, a do rag, a black shirt and black jeans.

Because the suspect description has similarities with the robber who struck at the C-Mart at 7101 E. Lincoln twice in a three-day span last week, Schroeder said, investigators will be checking to see if the crimes are connected. The two convenience stores are about five blocks apart.
