KU freshman hurt in alleged hazing is sent to rehab
LAWRENCE | A University of Kansas freshman who was hospitalized after an alleged hazing at a fraternity has been moved from a hospital to a rehabilitation center.
A spokesman for the University of Kansas Hospital says Matt Fritzie, of Stilwell in Johnson County, was discharged to a rehabilitation center on Monday.
Fritzie was injured Sept. 17 at a party held by the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Chris Fellows, who attended the party, said Tuesday that Fritzie initially was paralyzed from the chest down after he jumped into a makeshift pool.
Fellows told The Lawrence Journal-World that the fraternity made a pool by lining sandbags in a parking lot, putting a tarp inside and filling it with water from a hose.
University spokesman Todd Cohen says the university's investigation into Fritzie's injury is continuing. The fraternity's international organization is also investigating.
