He was a passenger in a 1997 GMC minivan that was heading east on K-96 when the driver overcorrected after drifting out of her lane, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The vehicle rolled several times in the median.

The driver, 17-year-old Whitney Young of Wichita, and a second passenger, 18-year-old Holly Marler of Maize, were killed in the crash. All three people were wearing seat belts, the highway patrol reported.
