Kansas mother testifies about day her slain daughter disappeared

WINFIELD | The mother of slain student Jodi Sanderholm said the last time she saw her daughter, she was getting ready for dance practice.

The Wichita Eagle reports that Cindy Sanderholm testified Wednesday in the capital murder trial of Justin Thurber, who's accused of kidnapping, raping and killing the 19-year-old college student in 2007.

Cindy Sanderholm testified that Jodi was up and getting ready to go to dance practice, which usually began at Cowley College at 10 a.m., on Jan. 5, 2000 — the last time she saw her.

She called her daughter about noon and that was the last she heard from her. The Sandersholms reported their daughter missing that evening.

Thurber, of Arkansas City, could be sentenced to death if the jury in Cowley County District Court convicts him of capital murder.
