Former Chief Ed Podolak retires as voice of the Hawkeyes

IOWA CITY, Iowa | Longtime Iowa football radio color analyst Ed Podolak has announced his retirement.

In a joint statement released Wednesday by the university, Podolak says he has wrestled with retirement through the fall and moved his real estate business to northern California.

The 62-year-old Podolak, who played for Iowa and the Kansas City Chiefs, says the time seems right because his contract with Learfield Sports has expired.

Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta says Podolak's knowledge, insight and wit will be missed.

The announcement comes after photos circulated on Web sites of Podolak drinking with a woman in a Florida bar during the Hawkeyes' trip to the Outback Bowl. The statement doesn't mention the photos.
