Saturday last day for Retain summer dog wash
The last Retain summer dog wash of the season is Saturday, Sept. 3, weather permitting.
Volunteers will be washing, rinsing and towel-drying dogs from 1 to 4 p.m. outside Heartland Animal Hospital, 4100 N. Woodlawn in Bel Aire. The cost is $5 for a dog of any size.
The summer dog wash is the main fundraiser for Responsible and Ethical Treatment of Animals in Neighborhoods, a nonprofit that raises money to spay and neuter pets whose owners cannot afford the surgeries. For more information, call 316-682-2249.
Petpalooza in Winfield to aid shelter
Cowley County Humane Society will hold a Petpalooza event on Sept. 10 at Winfield’s Black Creek Park.
The fundraiser, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will include a 1-mile fun walk, off-leash dog parks, a hot dog bar, vendors, a miniature horse show, a silent auction, raffle, contests and activities for dogs and their humans, as well as adoptable shelter dogs. Visiting dogs must be current on rabies vaccinations. Admission is free, and all proceeds benefit the shelter. For more information, call 620-221-1698.
Club to hold microchip clinic
The Wichita Kennel Club will conduct a low-cost microchip clinic for dogs from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 18 at the kennel club building, 3448 N. Emporia.
The cost is $20 per dog for those preregistered by Sept. 9 and $25 afterward. The fee includes implantation of the microchip by a licensed veterinarian and lifetime enrollment of your dog in the AKC Reunite database.
