Thanos, a 1-year-old male pit bull terrier mix, is available from Kansas Humane Society.
Hey there. I’m Thanos and I’m a fun-loving guy that loves to stay active. I love to run and play so if you’re looking for someone to help you get in shape, I’m your guy. We can go on runs to the dog park and then snuggle on the couch. I get along with just about everyone I meet and would love to have a doggie playmate. The staff here at the shelter tell me what a smart boy I am. I’m just interested in everything going on around me. Just watch my ears — they give me away every time. Come visit me today. Soon we’ll be best friends, I just know it.
Also available from KHS:
▪ Aphid, 11-year-old female Jack Russell-rat terrier mix
My name is Aphid. I’m just a sweet old gal searching for someone special to spend my golden years with. You see, my former family didn’t have room for me anymore. So now I’m here at the shelter looking for a new best friend. I’m what they call a “constant companion,” which means I just live to please my people. I’ll be the most loyal friend you’ve ever had and faithfully stick by your side through it all. Plus I get along with just about everyone. I’ve lived with other animals and children before and they all loved me. But can you blame them? Just come visit me, and I’ll win you over in no time too.
▪ Kricket, 10-month-old female shepherd mix
Hey! Do you wanna play? I just love to play. I’m about to have my first birthday soon but I’m still growing out of the puppy phase. I tend to be a little goofy but what can I say, I just love to see people smile. You know what I think would make everyone smile? If we had a birthday party for me when I turn 1. It’d be so much fun. That way I can meet all your friends and introduce myself as your new dog. I’ve never met a person I couldn’t make laugh. I always greet everyone with big wag of my tail. Come on. I’ll show you. All you’ve gotta do is come to the Kansas Humane Society today. I can’t wait to meet you.
▪ Sasha, 3-year-old female cat, domestic medium-hair mix
Looking for a friend? Well, look no further. You’ve found a BEST friend in me. I don’t think anyone should go through life alone; we all need a good Sidekick. And I’m simply the best. Like all great sidekicks, I’m incredibly loyal. When you come home from work, I’ll always greet you with a cute little head-butt. And once you start petting me, all your cares will just melt away. Our happy ending together could start as soon as today. Just come to the shelter and pay me a visit.
▪ Patricia, 1-year-old female cat, domestic shorthair mix
Hey, how are ya? I’ve been waiting for a friend like you to come along, someone with a heart as big as mine. I’m always the first to greet guests here in my “Kitty City” home at the shelter. It’s just me and a couple of other cats here in Kitty City, but I’m looking for someone special to go on an adventure with. I’m a cat who does everything in a BIG way. I not only like to be in the middle of things, I like to lead the parade. I’m an adventurous cat, but I will always take time to show you my affectionate side. I’m the demonstrative type, you might say. Want a cat that’s brimming with confidence? That would be ME.

GiGi, an almost 3-year-old shih-tzu, 8.5 pounds, is available for adoption from Pals Animal Rescue. This sweet and smart little girl loves her crate, is house-trained and learned the doggie door in about 30 seconds – all you need is a treat and she pays close attention. GiGi is very gentle and would do best in a calm home environment. She could easily be an only dog, but she doesn’t mind her foster brothers and even plays with them a little. She wants to be next to her person, sitting by you on the sofa or following you through the house. GiGi is one of four shih-tzus in the Pals program. See her and other Pals dogs from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at PetSmart at 3615 N. Rock Road.
Also from Pals:
Lily and her brother and two sisters started life as feral kittens. They lived under a bush in the front yard of a kind couple who wanted them to have a better life. It took a bit of work to get them to see what a better life they would have with people instead of running from them, but it happened. At 5 months of age, Lily is a sweet but shy girl who is now ready to be your best friend. Who says feral cats can’t make great pets? Lily and other Pals cats will be at PetSmart west, 533 N. Tracy, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4.
