The Wichita Kennel Club will host its sixth annual “Meet the Breeds” event Sunday in the foyer of Century II Concert Hall, 225 W. Douglas.

From noon to 4 p.m., representatives from 20 to 25 area dog, kennel and training clubs will be on hand with their dogs to talk about the breeds. People can get up close with the animals and find out which breed might fit best in their home environment.

“We will have over 20 breeds to look at, and owners and breeders will be on hand to answer questions,” said Mike Williams, president of the Wichita Kennel Club. “It’s a great opportunity for folks to come out and gather information on a particular breed they might be interested in.”

The event, which is free and open to the public, is held in conjunction with the 30th annual Sunflower Cluster Dog Show April 7-11 at the Kansas Pavilions in Park City.

Pet food, litter sought for pet food pantry

The Retain Foundation, a local nonprofit that battles the problem of animal overpopulation, is collecting dog and cat food for the pet food pantry operated by First Metropolitan Community Church in Wichita.

The church at 156 S. Kansas, which also distributes food for people in need, distributes a week’s worth of pet food the third Friday of every month to pet owners whose funds for the month may have run out.

The groups are seeking donations of unopened cat or dog food, dry or canned, and cat litter.

Food and supplies can be delivered to 414 S. Roosevelt. For more information, call 316-682-2249.

Sales of chocolate rabbits to help Bunny TNT

Bunny TNT, a local club for people who own and love rabbits, and Cero’s Candies are teaming up to help get out the message that bunnies do not make good Easter presents.

Cero’s has created chocolate bunny suckers that can be purchased for $2.50 through March 26. They are available at Cero’s, 3429 E. Douglas; Gupton’s Pets and Supplies, 2815 George Washington Blvd.; and Hillside Feed and Seed, 1805 S. Hillside.

Proceeds go to Bunny TNT to care for foster bunnies and place them in forever homes. Bunny TNT also wants people to know that while a chocolate bunny may last only 10 minutes, a live bunny is a 19-year commitment. If you are ready to make that commitment to adopt a bunny, contact Joyce Gedraitis at 316-683-1122 or grandmabunnyep@yahoo.com.
