Smokey, a male shih tzu mix, 2 or 3 years old, is available for adoption from Pals Animal Rescue. He is playful, loving and great with other dogs, but a bit pushy with cats. He is house- and crate-trained. He loves toys and belly rubs. See Smokey and other Pals dogs from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at PetSmart at 3615 N. Rock Road.

Also available from Pals:

▪ Piper, a 6-year-old female Yorkie mix, can’t wait to meet her forever people. She is a love bug who will follow you everywhere, greet you every time you come home as if she thought you were never coming back, and keep you warm on those cold nights as she snuggles up with you to watch TV, read or sleep. Piper will also be at PetSmart on North Rock Road on Saturday.

▪ Blue may not be a purebred cat, but he is famous in his own way, as one of a litter of kittens born under the bleachers on the WSU campus. He and all the other Pals cats and kittens will be strutting their stuff at the Wichita Cat Fancy cat show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Cotillion. Visit all the cats at the show, but don’t forget to come by to see Blue and his friends.

Amarillo, a 1-year-old male shepherd mix, is available for adoption from Kansas Humane Society.

Everybody needs a good laugh sometimes. That’s why I always try to entertain the people I’m with. The staff here at the shelter call me a “Goofball,” but I just like to have a good time. I’m just a silly guy, but what I really want is a home to call my own. I promise, if you give me a chance, I’ll fill your home with love and laughter.

Also available from KHS:

▪ Amethyst, 4-year-old female Labrador retriever mix

I’m a smart gal looking for a happy home. I’m quite the people pleaser, so I’ll be really easygoing. I may know some tricks already, but I hope you’ll teach me stuff. You should definitely stop by, so we can talking about what I might already know. We’ll have a great life together. I just know it.

▪ Starpool, 2-month-old female cat, domestic shorthair mix

Wanna play? Play is my middle name. I just love to chase string and feathers. Plus I’ve been practicing my pouncing skills on my sister, Cloudstar. We were brought in together and now we’re each looking for families to take us in and give us the love we deserve. Won’t you come give me a home of my own?

▪ Bijou, 6-month-old female cat, domestic shorthair mix

Bonjour, my name is Bijou. It means small and elegant, which is exactly what I am. At just 6 months old, I’ve got some growing up to do, but I always try to be a good girl. I use my litter box perfectly. I also love to get scratched behind the ears. One good pet on my head, and I’ll be your best friend forever.

▪ Pookie, female American rabbit

You don’t have to wait until Easter because your forever little rabbit is right here. I’ve just been hopping along, hoping to bump into someone who can give me the love and attention I’ve been longing for. I’ve been patiently waiting at the shelter for almost a month now, so come see me today. Oh, and pick up some carrots on your way to the shelter.
