Wichita closes its dog parks to prevent spread of coronavirus

Dogs will have to depend on their two-legged friends for companionship during the coronavirus pandemic.

Wichita closed its four dog parks this week to help slow the spread of the virus until the stay-home order expires April 23 — unless it is amended. Wichita spokesperson Megan Lovely said the closures help avoid going over the congregating limit of 10 people. Dog parks also have lots of items to touch, which can make it easier to spread the virus, she said.

“There are multiple touch points in dog parks including gates, dog bowls, sitting benches/ tables, water hoses and more,” Lovely said in an email.

Parks remain open but the playgrounds and bathrooms at the parks are closed.
