Discounted adoption fees today at KHS
To celebrate the first year in its new facility, the Kansas Humane Society is hosting a first birthday celebration today and reducing adoption fees to $50 or less.
Dogs and puppies can be adopted for $50, kittens for $30 and adult cats at no charge.
Each adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, a basic series of vaccinations and a microchip.

Sign up for free spay, neuter surgeries
Sedgwick County residents who meet low income guidelines can sign up for free spaying and neutering of their pets on June 26.
Spayed or neutered pets will also receive a free rabies vaccination and microchipping, and Wichita residents can receive a free one-year city dog license.
Interested pet owners must register between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Linwood Recreation Center, 1901 S. Kansas, and must bring proof of residency, proof of annual income of less than $44,100 for a family of four, and date of birth for each household member.
The project is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in an effort to reduce euthanasia of unwanted pets.
For more information, call 316-303-8029.
Summer dog wash open for business
The RETAIN dog wash is open for business at Heartland Animal Hospital, 4100 N. Woodlawn in Bel Aire.
Today and every Saturday between 1 and 4 p.m. through Sept. 4, weather permitting, volunteers will shampoo, rinse and towel off dogs for a requested donation of $4 for a small or medium-sized dog and $5 for a large dog.
Proceeds go to RETAIN, a local group that helps pay to spay and neuter pets whose owners can't afford the surgeries.
For more information, call Jerry at 316-682-2249.
