Wine of the week (Nov. 12)
Bodegas Sierra Salinas “Puerto Salinas” Alicante, 2009
Recommended by: Jamie Stratton CWE, CSW, wine director Jacob Liquor Exchange
Price: $16.99
Tastes like: “The Sierra Salinas is Alicante at its best and showcases some of its main red grape varieties in Monastrell and Garnacha with a little splash of Cabernet as well. I love the aromatics of this wine with the dark cocoa from the Monastrell and the rusty raspberry spice from the Garnacha. The palate on the wine is full and broad with a complex array of dark fruits, spices, all framed in with some nice mineral components. This wine over-delivers for the price and would be great for sipping on a cold day.”
Pairs well with: Grilled lamb
Comments: “The values coming out of Spain are amazing and very tantalizing. The stalwart wines of Rioja and Ribera del Duero are always good but it’s great to find some of the obscure wines and grapes in lesser known regions such as Alicante.”
