Beer of the week: Boulevard Smokestack Series, The Calling IPA

Boulevard Smokestack Series, The Calling IPA

Recommended by: Jeff Stanley, Crafts Brand Manager, LDF Sales and Distributing

Price: $10.49-$10.99 for a four-pack of 12-ounce bottles in area liquor stores, $4.50-$6 for 10-ounce draught in local bars

Tastes like: “A medium-bodied, light-colored ale with hoppy aromas of grapefruit, tropical fruit, peaches and pine needles. Flavors are biased toward hops, but with a slight biscuit-y malt sweetness. The finish is crisp and dry with lingering hop flavor.”

Pairs well with: Charcuterie. Flavorful appetizers. Strong cheeses. Out-of-this-world with a slice of carrot cake.

Comments: “Boulevard’s newest IPA replaces Double-Wide IPA, which was introduced back in 2006. This beer is a showcase for new hop varieties that display tropical and stone-fruit aromas. A very easy-drinking beer, especially considering it has 8.5 percent alcohol by volume and 75 bitterness units.”
