Wine of the (Cinco de Mayo) week

NV Broadbent Vinho Verde, Portugal

Recommended by: Whitney Stratton, Jacob Liquor

Price: $9.99

Tastes like: “Tart green apple, white peach and melon flavors. A deliciously crisp and zesty finish with a hint of effervescence.”

Pairs well with: “Mexican food. Beer might be the more obvious pairing option but wine can be great, too, especially Vinho Verde. With its light bubbles and low alcohol, it can actually be treated like a fruity, crisp beer. A refreshing alternative.”

Comments: “Vinho Verde, or ‘green wine’ from northern Portugal, often blends the Albarino grape (called Alvarinho there) with local varieties Loureiro and Trajadura. Bottled so young that it often has a lightly spritzy quality, Vinho Verde has tangy acidity and citrus fruits on the palate. Now, don’t confuse fruitiness with sweetness. This wine is bone dry.”
