Beer of the week: Imperial Java Stout
Imperial Java Stout, Santa Fe Brewing Co.
Recommended by: Jeff Stanley, Crafts Brand Manager, LDF Sales and Distributing
Price: $8.99-$9.99 for a six-pack of 12-ounce cans in area liquor stores, $4-$5 for a 12-ounce serving in local bars.
Tastes like: “A full-bodied dark ale with aromas of coffee and dark chocolate, a sweet toasted-malt flavor, and just enough hops for a balanced, drying finish.”
Pairs well with: “Chicken mole, French toast, tiramisu, vanilla bean ice cream, tangy cheeses like English Cheddar or a creamy Gorgonzola.”
Comments: “This beer, which was just released in the Wichita market earlier this month, is brewed with organic East Timor and New Guinea coffee beans roasted at the brewery’s neighbor, Ohori’s Coffee House. Imperial Java Stout uses extra-generous quantities of barley malt, followed by vigorous fermentation, leaving this ‘imperial’ heavy weight with 8 percent alcohol by volume and a body as full as chocolate bread pudding.”
