Pickle lovers rejoice, it’s #NationalPickleDay
It’s #NationalPickleDay and time to eat some spears from the jar, pickle roll-ups, fried pickles or even try some Kool-Aid pickles.
National Pickle Day is Nov. 14 each year and includes all types of pickles: dill, gherkin, cornichon, brined, sour, kosher dill, Polish, bread and butter, Swedish and Danish, to name a few.
It’s unclear when National Pickle Day started, or who created it, but it’s been celebrated on different days for nearly 70 years when the Pickle Packers Association encouraged the celebration.
Here’s some pickle trivia:
▪ The word pickle comes from the Dutch word “pekel,” meaning brine.
▪ Dill pickles are twice as popular as sweet pickles in the U.S.
▪ The Department of Agriculture estimates the average American eats 8.5 pounds of pickles per year.
▪ Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, attributed her good looks to a diet of pickles.
