A Houston college student recently gave his grandparents a surprise they will treasure forever.

Stefun Darts, 24, gave $15,000 to his grandparents, Cecil and Marilyn Roberts, to pay off the mortgage on the home they’ve owned for more than 20 years.

In a Facebook post last week, Darts said:

“I promised God in the second grade I would pay off you guys house and help you retire.”

He has been frugal for a long time, he told Houston TV station KHOU.

“I’ve been eating pizza ... microwave pizzas, like, for all my life,” said Darts, who attends San Jacinto College and works full time. He said he rarely went out with his friends who didn’t know his plans for the money he saved.

“Even with this, I could never repay you for what you’ve done for me,” he said to his grandparents on Facebook.
