Groundhog Day: What day would you choose to live over and over?

Groundhog Day will never be seen the same way after Bill Murray’s portrayal of a local weatherman who is mysteriously cursed (or blessed) to live the same day over and over.

If you had to choose, what day would you live over and over? Post a short description in the comments section of what happened and why you would choose that day.

Here are a few responses by Eagle reporters to get your brain going.

Driving home to Idaho through the Caribou-Targhee National Forest when I was 19. It was my first road trip back home to Idaho after spending a year at McConnell in the Air Force. It was just beautiful. The mountains were right there nestled against the roadside. There were a number of river guides with their boats out coming down the creek with rapids. And it was a sunny day, it was warm, early in June, and I had to pull off to the side of the road and kind of shut my engine off and soak it all in.

I’d probably relive the Christmas when I was 6 years old and I got a Walter Payton jersey. It’s what I wanted, and when you get what you want at that age, it’s the best possible thing that can happen in the world.

Going surfing last fall in California with my husband. It was me facing a big fear of mine because I almost drowned when I was a kid. So surfing and being in the open ocean was a huge fear of mine, but I actually accomplished riding a wave, and it was a huge adrenaline rush. We got to hang out at the beach after and be completely lazy. I would essentially like to be a beach bum and surf all day – mediocrely.

If it’s the best day ever, wouldn’t I end up hating it? It’s special because it’s so rare: If I had to live it over and over again, it would leach all the magic out. (Pressed to give an answer.) The birth of my daughter, because it was so wonderful. It took all day, of course. When we finally got settled, I was somewhat tired, and my ex-wife was exhausted, but it was the Fourth of July and the city blew up in fireworks.

Amy Renee Leiker (court reporter)

I’m always looking forward to my future, so there is no day that I would want to relive. I love my kids a lot, but delivery day was miserable. It was 37 hours of back labor. I begged for the drugs. They had to wake me up to push.
