'House of the Dragon' Season 3 BTS Footage Reveals First Look at Major New Character

Fire and blood will reign in a little over a month. HBO unleashed a fiery new teaser for House of the Dragon Season 3. The nearly three-minute video showcases behind-the-scenes footage for the highly anticipated third season, along with commentary from the cast and co-creator/showrunner Ryan Condal.

Said footage teases the upcoming Battle of the Gullet as well as a brutal clashing between Lord Corlys Velaryon, Hand of the Queen to Rhaenyra Tarygaryen and head of the Velaryon fleet, and Sharako Lohar, the Lysene commander of the Triarchy fleet. Actor Tom Glynn-Carney also teases Aegon Targaryen's revenge-fueled journey in Season 3 after fleeing King's Landing for Braavos with Larys Strong.

The highlight of the video is easily the reveal of the new characters joining House of the Dragon (still no sight of Daeron Targaryen, unfortunately). This includes James Norton as Ormund Hightower, Tommy Flanagan as Roddy the Ruin, and Dan Fogler as Torrhen Manderly.

However, it's the first look at Annie Shapero as Alysanne Blackwood, also known as Black Aly, that's the most exciting of all. Black Aly is a fan favorite, and she's one of the fiercest warriors in Westeros. She's also one of the few commanders from Team Black or Team Green to fight in the Dance of the Dragons from beginning to end. Black Aly is an ardent supporter of Rhaenyra and a skilled archer, to boot. In the BTS footage, Black Aly sits astride her horse, marching into battle.

Per Deadline, Shapero will appear as the legendary character in five of the eight Season 3 episodes, although she's not a series regular.

House of the Dragon stars Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, James Norton, Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin, Abubakar Salim, Tom Cullen, Tommy Flanagan, Dan Fogler, Joplin Sibtain, and Barry Sloane. It's based on George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood.

Brace yourself for battle when the series returns on Sunday, June 21, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and HBO Max, followed by weekly releases until the season finale on Aug. 9. Before you go, check out the Season 3 teaser below.
