Increase of single adults moving to Wichita among nation’s highest

If you thought the nightlife in Old Town has been improving recently, it may not be just you: Wichita recently ranked number 14 in the country among large metro areas for the percentage increase of single adults from out of state, according to Census Bureau data analyzed by Selfstorage.com.

Wichita attracted 6,266 out-of-state singles in 2013, an 11.7 percent increase from 2009.

That was good enough to place it ahead of places such as Pittsburgh, Pa., and Worcester, Mass., but below Madison, Wis., which led the country with a 39 percent increase in single adults from 2009 to 2013.

But the analysis by Selfstorage.com also quoted Wichita matchmaker and dating coach Suzanna Mathews, who said Wichita singles still complain about the overall size of the dating pool, even if it is increasing.

“People complain that they keep running into people they know or someone connected to them, that the dating pool isn’t very deep or wide, and that entertainment options for dating activities are more limited than they would be in a bigger city,” Mathews said.
