A Wichita woman who pleaded guilty in federal court to stealing guns from Atwoods in Park City stole the guns to pay off her debt to her drug dealer, court documents show.

Chaelyn Nichole Aaron, 28, pried open the gun counter and stole seven guns from Atwoods in Park City on the morning of March 28.

On Monday, Aaron was sentenced to 110 months in federal prison.

That’s 33 months longer than the government’s recommendation in the plea agreement, according to a court document filed by Aaron’s attorney, Paul McCausland.

She pleaded guilty in August to going behind the counter and using a small, red crowbar to pry open the display case — eventually breaking the glass — and stealing the guns.

Aaron took seven handguns and stuffed them into a large handbag. Then she left the store at 6235 N. Broadway in Park City, just north of Wichita.

Atwoods’ surveillance footage helped Park City police and an agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives identify Aaron, who was charged with the thefts in late April.
