When Jon and Ivy Jones opened their second Verita Coffee in Clifton Square in December, it was to bolster coffee sales of their first store, which opened at the Westlink shopping center on West Central between Tyler and Maize Road in 2015.

The strategy did not work. Both Veritas closed as of Saturday.

"After our expansion, sales never grew, and we were left holding the financial burden of expansion," Jon Jones wrote in a Facebook message.

Jones said he's offering a deal on the front part of his Westlink space for someone either already in the coffee business or someone who is wanting to be.

"We're offering to give the new person all of the coffee equipment in the front space for free so that it would be easier for them to start without the debt of equipment purchases," Jones wrote. "It would be a turn key business, in an already developed area. It's profitable without all of the debt, and the added space in the back."

Even though the business is profitable, Jones said it's not profitable enough for him and his wife after they took on so much debt.

For Westlink's sake, Jones said he hopes someone takes him up on his offer.

"I would really like to see another coffee shop go in there," Jones said. "It made that center come alive."

Jones said he and his wife want to sell their Clifton Square spot. There's no free equipment since it's all new and the Joneses still owe on it.

Jones said the Clifton Verita also is profitable and that "all of the businesses in Clifton square have come to rely on the coffee shop there for their daily caffeine."
