Delano restaurant starting its big move to a space with 10 times more seating

You'll have to wait for a little more than a week to get your next taste of Peruvian fare.

Gabby’s Peruvian Restaurant, the itty bitty but popular restaurant that has operated at 1713 W. Douglas since 2016, closed at the end of business Sunday to prepare for its big move. Owner Gaby Kruskamp is relocating restaurant to a much larger space at 1002 S. Seneca that will significantly increase the number of tables.

She plans to reopen at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9. On Saturday, May 12, the restaurant will put on a special celebration from 3 to 5 p.m., and Kruskamp is inviting customers in for free appetizers.

Her new spot, which previously held Breakfast Club and (briefly) La Tia Cafe, has gotten a significant remodel in the past couple of weeks, with a new paint job on the outside and bright new windows that allow a peek inside from the street.

Kruskamp's customer base has grown as more people have learned about her authentic Peruvian dishes like arroz con pollo, chicharron, fried tilapia and flan. It had become so difficult to get a seat, Kruskamp said, that people would drive away if it was too crowded.
