Lou Reed tweet leads fans to Facebook goodbye
Led by a last tweet left on Lou Reed's Twitter account, fans gathered at his Facebook page on Sunday after news of his death broke.
Reed had been in frail health for months, according to his literary agent Andrew Wylie, and died in Southampton, N.Y. of an illness related to his recent liver transplant.
Early Sunday, a tweet was sent from his Twitter account that linked to his Facebook page and a photo there called, simply, “The Door.”
The photo shows a poster of Reed, wearing a T-shirt that says "Supreme," plastered on a door with the words, “Pa Pa Loves Baby” scrawled underneath. The graffiti is well-known in New York City, where it began popping up in 2009. The man who started it once explained to The New York Times that the story behind the message included the "Western ideology of love."
More than 9,000 people had “liked” the post by early Sunday afternoon.
