Screen Scene: ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ sports death-defying stunts
New this week
▪ “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” — Tom Cruise is still going strong at age 53, and returns for the fifth film in this action/spy series based on the late-’60s TV show. This time, Ethan and his team try to eradicate an international rogue organization that wants to destroy them.
If you’ve seen trailers for the film, you’re familiar with the scene of Cruise clinging to the side of an airplane as it takes off. Well, THAT really happened (he does most of his own stunts). Apparently, Cruise scoffs at green screen shots – and mere mortals.
▪ “Vacation” — Little Rusty Griswold from the National Lampoon “Vacation” movies is all grown up now (and played by Ed Helms), and wants to relive the vacation of his youth with his wife (Christina Applegate) and two kids, so he loads them up for a cross-country road trip to Walley World. What could possibly go wrong?
Series original stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo make cameos.
Starting Wednesday
▪ “Shaun the Sheep Movie” — From the lovably funny Brits who created “Chicken Run” and the “Wallace and Gromit” films comes this stop-motion animated comedy based on a British TV series, about a mischievous sheep living with his flock at Mossy Bottom Farm. He decides to take the day off and have some fun but gets more action than he bargained for. Don’t we always?
