November film events in Wichita include Mediocre Movie Marathon, ‘Dawn of the Dead’ 3-D
Several special alternative film events on the horizon in Wichita in November. Here’s a look:
TALLGRASS FILM CENTER
In The Lux, 120 E. First St. Unit 113
Mediocre Movie Marathon
Participants will compete to see who can last the longest while watching some very average movies — a test of endurance, not a race.
The event is a fundraiser for the Tallgrass Film Association and is open to everyone, whether you’re a casual weekend Netflix binger or a true cinephile.
Participants must watch the movies at the Tallgrass Film Center while raising money online. The event starts at 7 p.m. Friday and lasts until 7 p.m. Sunday — if marathoners last that long.
Each participant will be asked to raise a minimum of $1,000 by asking others to donate to help the Tallgrass Film Association continue its mission. A non-refundable $50 donation is required at the time of registration and will be credited toward each participant’s fundraising goal.
Registration will be capped at 25 participants. The top three fundraisers will win prizes. Money will also help support Tallgrass’ Emerging Programmer Apprentice program for teens to learn about filmmaking, a free program.
There are three ways to participate:
1. Register and marathon
2. Support a marathoner with donations that provide snacks, pillows and more.
3. Tune in to watch the marathoners — donate or watch for free.
