Halloween season kicks off with horror festival (VIDEO)
It’s officially Halloween season! And just in time to celebrate is the fourth annual October at the Oldtown Horror Festival, a series of vintage horror classics curated by Wichitan filmmaker/promoter Leif Jonker.
This year’s festival kicks off with “Creepshow,” the 1982 horror/comedy classic that’s really a collection of several short stories tied together with a pulpy, comic-book feel. Stephen King wrote the screenplay and horror guru George A. Romero directed.
The film will be shown at 7 and 10 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Warren Old Town Theatre, 353 N. Mead. Tickets are $5 and the film is rated R.
Here’s the schedule for the rest of the festival at the Warren Old Town:
▪ “Basket Case” (1982) — A man carrying a basket that contains his once-conjoined twin brother seeks vengeance on the doctors who separated them against their will. 7 and 10 p.m. Oct. 13 and 14.
▪ “The Gates of Hell” aka “City of the Dead” (1980) — A reporter and a psychic race to close the gates of hell after the suicide of a clergyman caused them to open. 7 and 10 p.m. Oct. 20.
▪ “Demons” (1985) — A group of people get trapped in a movie theater in West Berlin and find that it’s inhabited by ravenous demons. 7 and 10 p.m. Oct. 21.
▪ “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (1974) — Five friends who visit a house in the country are terrorized by a chainsaw-wielding killer and his family of grave-robbing cannibals. 7 and 10 p.m. Oct. 27 and 28.
The festival is a benefit for the LAPP animal shelter. For more information, go to www.facebook.com/groups/wichitabigscreen.
