Best bet opening Friday, Nov. 10

“Murder on the Orient Express” – Kenneth Branagh directs and stars as Hercule Poirot in this lush adaptation of Agatha Christie’s 1934 novel with a star-studded cast that includes Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Daisy Ridley and Josh Gad.

Also opening Friday

“Daddy’s Home 2” – Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell return for this comedy sequel that also adds Mel Gibson and John Lithgow to the mix.

Special screening

“A Face in the Crowd” – The Orpheum Classics Series presents this 60th anniversary screening of the musical drama that stars Andy Griffith, Patricia Neal and Walter Matthau and is directed by film great Elia Kazan. The story follows an Arkansas drifter who becomes an overnight media sensation. But the increasingly petulant star’s ego, arrogance and womanizing threatens his rise to the top. It will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Orpheum Theatre, 200 N. Broadway. Tickets are $5, $4 for students, seniors and military.

“Along for the Ride” – Tallgrass Film Association presents the Wichita premiere of Nick Ebeling’s critically-acclaimed documentary that explores the life and career of actor Dennis Hopper at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the Crown Uptown Theatre, 3207 E. Douglas. A Q&A hosted by KMUW’s Fletcher Powell will follow with Ebeling and Satya de la Manitou, Hopper’s long-time assistant. A reception with complimentary beer, wine and food starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets that include the film and reception are $25.
