A guide to animated movies for the rest of 2025
The animated comedy “Sneaks” sneaks into theaters on Friday, April 18. It follows a designer sneaker who unwittingly finds himself lost in New York City. It looks to be an imaginative experience, and that’s the great thing about animated films – they can transport us to other worlds. They’re not just for kids anymore. Here are more animated films coming our way for the rest of the year.
“Elio” – Pixar’s latest follows Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination, who finds himself on a cosmic misadventure where he must form new bonds with alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions and somehow discover who he is truly meant to be. (June 20)
“Smurfs” – This reboot of the franchise finds Papa Smurf mysteriously taken by evil wizards, so Smurfette leads the Smurfs on a mission into the real world to save him. With the help of new friends, the Smurfs must discover what defines their destiny to save the universe. (July 18)
“Pets on a Train” – When a crew of animal bandits embark on a fairly routine swindle, they find themselves caught up in a high-tech, professional train heist. It’s up to Falcon, a petty thief raccoon, and Rex, a righteous police-dog, to save the animals stuck onboard the high-speed runaway train. (Oct. 17)
“Zootopia 2” – Nine years after Disney’s original comes this sequel with brave rabbit cop Judy Hopps and her friend, the fox Nick Wilde, who team up again to crack a new case, the most perilous and intricate of their careers. Of course. (Nov. 26)
“The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants” – SpongeBob and his friends Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, and Mr. Krabs journey to the ocean’s depths to face the Flying Dutchman’s ghost, encountering challenges and uncovering marine mysteries. (Dec. 19)
