Welcome spring to Wichita with these local film events
Spring is almost here! The perfect time to hole up in a dark theater for some cool local alternative film events. Here’s a look at what’s coming for the rest of March (titles and times are subject to change):

Anniversary Film Series: “9 to 5” (1980) – Employees Violet (Lily Tomlin), Judy (Jane Fonda), and Dora Lee (Dolly Parton, in her film debut) find a way to turn the tables on their sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical, bigot boss Franklin Hart Jr. (Dabney Coleman). Truly hilarious. Showing at 7 p.m., March 20. Tickets are $8, $7 students, seniors and military.
“Sod & Stubble” (2025) – Local writer/director Ken Spurgeon tells the story of the Henry and Rosie Ise pioneer family, who homesteaded in Osborne County, Kansas, in the 1870s and battled through the many challenges of homesteading on the Kansas plains. The film stars Bailey Chase, Dodie Brown, Barry Corbin, Mary McDonough, Delno Ebie and more. It will have its premiere at 7 p.m. March 28. Tickets are $25.

“Knitflix & Chill: Practical Magic” (1998) – Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock star as witch sisters raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town who face closed-minded prejudice and a curse which threatens to prevent them from ever finding lasting love. Bring your knitting, crocheting, or any mess-free craft to participate in a group crafts session from noon-2 p.m. Harvester Arts will have yarn, crocheting supplies, and wine available in their space. Film is at 3 p.m. Sat, March 15. $15 plus taxes and fees.
“Kneecap” (2024) – This depicts the rise of Kneecap, an Irish hip-hop trio from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Rapping in their native Irish language, they lead a movement to save their mother tongue. 7 p.m. Saturday, March 15. $12 plus taxes and fees.
“Space Jam” (1996) – In a desperate attempt to win a basketball match and earn their freedom, the Looney Tunes characters seek the aid of retired basketball champion Michael Jordan. 7 p.m. March 21. $12 plus taxes and fees.
Gate Record Store presents: “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” (1985) – After being exiled from the most advanced town in post-apocalyptic Australia, drifter “Mad Max” (Mel Gibson) travels with a group of abandoned children to rebel against the town’s queen. 7 p.m. March 22. $12 plus taxes and fees.
Harmons and Hollywood presents: “Who’s Minding the Store?” (1963) – Comedy about a klutzy poodle sitter (Jerry Lewis) who goes to work in his girlfriend’s (Jill St. John) mother’s (Agnes Moorehead) department store. 4 p.m. March 23. $8 plus taxes and fees.

Wichita’s only remaining drive-in is reopen for the spring, on Fridays and Saturdays only, for now. Titles will change weekly.
