Herndon was born and raised in Haysville before attending and graduating from Wichita State University. He spent 12 years as an anchor at KAKE before leaving for the Chicago market in 2013.
“In this new role, I am grateful to have the opportunity to reconnect with my Kansan roots and our outstanding local audiences,” said Herndon in a statement.
Herndon announced in early August that he was moving back to Wichita.
“I love Kansas and I missed the ICT – it’s home. With my contract ending in Chicago, it was the right time to move back,” he told The Eagle at the time.
Herndon will begin at the station Sept. 25, the station said. His final newscast in Chicago aired Tuesday night.
KSN, Wichita’s NBC affiliate, is owned by Nextar Media Group.
