The taco restaurant everyone’s been waiting on (or at least everyone at the Wichita Eagle because it’s right next door) will open on Friday.
District Taqueria at 917 E. Douglas will serve inventive, gourmet tacos with fillings including pork carnitas, beef barbacoa, mole pulled chicken, chipotle mushrooms and more. It’ll have unusual salsas, and the tacos will be served on soft flour or corn tortillas. (One example from the menu: a pork carnitas taco with charred green chiles and cactus salsa.) The menu also has crispy taquitos, chips and salsa, guacamole or queso, and salads. (The building most recently was home to Jon’s Ale House and Kelly’s Irish Pub before that.)
Michael Farha, who is opening the restaurant along with his partner Marc Humsi, said District also will have a full bar, including a large selection of tequila. It will serve several Mexican beers as well as margaritas, sangria and more.
Customers will order at the counter and have their food delivered to them. I peeked in the window this morning to choose my permanent lunch spot, and the dining room was filled with wooden tables and chairs, had a red floor, a nice bar and lots of exposed brick.

Tacos will be served from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. District will stay open for drinks until midnight Mondays through Wednesdays and until 2 a.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.
