Now, there’s double the delicious reason to drive to Mulvane to eat.
Not only is Mulvane, a town about 30 minutes to Wichita’s south, home to the popular Italian restaurant Luciano’s, but it’s about to get its own Cajun restaurant, too.
Sherri Walker, who two years ago launched her Vautrot’s Cajun Goods food truck, will open a stationary version of the business on Thursday. It will be in the former Dairy King space at 222 N. Second Street, just a few blocks away from Luciano’s.
The restaurant will seat about 49 people and will serve many of the items made popular on the food truck and then some. Walker says she’ll serve jambalaya, etouffee, gumbo, oysters, catfish, crawfish and even some alligator. She’ll also have blue-plate lunch specials.

The restaurant will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturdays. Walker says she might eventually add Monday hours. Her grand opening will be on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 17, when she’ll throw a big Mardis Gras party.
Walker plans to keep the food truck, which is a regular at festivals in and around Mulvane, operating, too. Its next outing will be at the Tulip Time Festival in Belle Plaine in April.
