There’s a new pub in town dedicated to fans of soccer.

Sporting Casey’s Soccer Pub & Grill recently opened in the former Cross Eyed Cricket Tavern space at 1110 W. Harry.

The new business, owned by Casey Thompson and Jordan Burkey, shows soccer games from around the globe on its 15 television sets and offers soccer fans in Wichita a place to gather and watch them. It serves a bar food menu and even has a soccer-themed outdoor game for its patrons to play called FootPool.

“As far as anyone in Kansas, we are the first ones to focus on soccer,” Burkey said. “Kansas City is the closest place, but those bars are on the Missouri side.”

So far, the bar has been packed with soccer fans, Burkey said, including a group of about 25 Englishmen last weekend. The bar updates which soccer matches it intends to show on its Facebook page.

Its FootPool game, set up outside, looks like a pool table but has balls that players move around with their feet, soccer style.

As for the bar’s name sounding a lot like Sporting KC, Kansas City’s professional soccer club, that was intentional, Burkey said.

The pub is open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays and from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
