A food-related race might be a bit counter productive, but it’s no doubt way more fun.

Two new food-and-beverage-themed races are happening in Wichita in February.

The first is the Chilly Chili event, which happens on Feb. 7 and will benefit local cancer patient Charlie Lavacek’s battle with brain cancer. The event, which also will include a 1-mile walk, starts at at the Riverlawn Christian Church, 4243 N Meridian. A chili-feed will follow the races at the church.

Registration for the four-mile run is $40, and the one-mile is $30. Both include chili. Those who want to eat but not run can come to the chili feed only for $20. And anyone who wants to do both runs can register for $50.

Runners and eaters can register online at www.firstgearrunningcompany.com/events/ or at First Gear Running Company, 111 N. Mosley.

Then, on Feb. 28, local coffee shop Mead’s Corner will team up with Wichita Running Company for the Battle of the Bean 5K and Jelly Bean Dash. The race, which starts at Mead’s Corner, 430 E. Douglas, includes a 5K Run/walk that starts at 8 a.m. The Jelly Bean Dash is a Fun Run for children ages 8 and under that starts at 9 a.m. Runners will be treated to Mead’s coffee and hot chocolate after the race.

Registration is $32 for the 5K and $12 for the dash. To register, visit www.wichitarunningcompany.com/
