A couple of new food-related charity events are coming up during the next several months in Wichita, and they deal with three of my favorite things: beer, food trucks and latte.

The first one is the Throw Down in Old Town, which started last year as a smaller event focused just on cookies. This year, though, the highlight of the fundraiser for Children First: CEO Kansas Inc. will be a latte art competition among Wichita’s top coffee artists. It’s from 6 to 8 p.m. on March 5 at the Eaton Venue, 523 E. Douglas. The coffee shops already signed up include Reverie Coffee Roasters, Espresso to Go Go, Donut Whole, Sunflower Espresso, R Coffee House and Il Primo Espresso Caffe, which also will provide coffee to attendees.

The event also will include a cookie competition with bakery items from Cravings Gluten Free Bakery, the Dish Diva and Twizted Confections. Tickets are $15 and are available at http://throwdown2015.eventbrite.com. Attendees get coffee and cookie samples and will be able to watch the latte art competition.

Then, on May 3, Andover Advantage will be putting on a new event called Food & Brew Fest. The details are still being worked out, but the event will be from 1 to 4 p.m. somewhere in Andover and will feature beer from Kansas breweries including Hopping Gnome and Walnut River Brewing and food from local food trucks. It’ll also have live music, raffles and more. Ticket information will be available closer to the date. In the meantime, you can follow along at the event’s Facebook page.
