Downtown’s newest restaurant serves Mediterranean fare

The former Anna Murdoc’s Cafe spot at 209 E. William has a new tenant, even though you wouldn’t know by looking.

Mohammad Awadi and his wife, Ilham Madi, opened Downtown Cafe/ Mediterranean Style on Jan. 13, but because of weather, the company they’ve hired to put up signage hasn’t been able to do the job. The Anna Murdoc’s sign is still up.

But inside, the restaurant is serving a menu of Mediterranean favorites, including chicken and beef shawarma, hummus, baba ghanoush, gyros, kibbe and more.

The restaurant is open for lunch only, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

Awadi and Madi also own Premium Catering, and Awadi owns Cars 4 You with his brothers and once owned a pizza restaurant in Overland Park.
