A new eatery in Delano is specializing in Peruvian food.
Friends and Peru natives Gabriela Cruzcam and Rosio Villanueva took over the space a couple of months ago, mainly because they wanted the kitchen for their catering business. But since the space also has a small dining room, they decided they may as well serve a menu as well.
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, the friends are serving cold and hot sandwiches like egg salad, turkey and fried pork chicharron as well as grilled club, ham and cheese, brisket and veggie sandwiches. They also serve a classic burger.
On Fridays and Saturdays, they switch the menu to Peruvian specials. Customers can sample papa rellena, which are potato croquettes stuffed with meat, eggs, raisins and olives; and arroz con pollo, which is chicken breast mixed with rice, cilantro, red peppers and green peas. The Peruvian menu also includes a beef stir-fry, a beef stew, fried tilapia and a grilled skirt steak served with potatoes and salsa. There’s also flan and alfajores, a shortbread and dulce de leche treat, for dessert.
The tiny dining room seats about 10, and food also is available to go. The hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays. Gabby’s Catering is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The owners also cater birthday parties, anniversaries, weddings, corporate events and more. For more information, call 316-613-8050.
