Popcorn and beer are a natural duo, and one local brewery plans to demonstrate exactly how natural.
On Thursday, Hopping Gnome Brewing at 1710 E. Douglas is putting on a beer and popcorn pairing event. For $15, participants will get a flight of six of the brewery’s beers, each one paired with a different flavor of popcorn made at Kernel’s Popcorn Express, 1101 E. Second St.
Kernel’s makes the popcorn that’s served for free at several local bars, including Mort’s and Hopping Gnome, which always has at least two flavors available. Brewery co-owner Stacy Ward Lattin said she thought it would be fun to experiment with matching the flavors with beers.
A few of the pairings the brewery has come up with: cheddar popcorn with pale ale, Guadalajara spicy popcorn with IPA, toffee popcorn with amber ale and kettle corn with coffee stout.
The event starts at 6 p.m., and the beer and popcorn flights will be available till the popcorn is gone. Hopping Gnome closes at 10 p.m. on Thursdays.
Noble House Hawaiian Plate Lunch food truck also will be there serving food out front starting at 5 p.m.
